Ode to 20 Thorpe Road

It was the signs of the times.
After more than half a century mini 'Barulak' off Green Lane finally succumbed to the merciless. My mother's discovery came in the form of a terkejut tergempak, when one day the picture frame on the wall fell to pieces onto the floor.
A couple of days later the ceiling fell through.
After having survived the Perang Jepun and the Sumatran earthquakes, to my mother this stiring incident is comparatively akin to just a 'bunyi kontuik'.

- yes its TERMITE ATTACK !

Alhamdulillah she is safe and sound.

That was about 4 months ago and the painfully slow rehabilitation process took place immediately. Where ever possible, everything should remain intact in its original form, windows, doors, door knobs and even the toilet bowl.
Fortunately, the house is now completed and in time for the coming Aid Mubarak!
In a way its a good thing, that this happened because this major spring cleaning effort is very long overdue. Obviously, things got thrown out, replaced and even sneaked out (much to my mother's disagreement) leaving only the necessary 'junk'.
This old house has served us very well and will serve further for the future generations to come.

.
mini Barulak as it stands today.

In this house, all of us will always find solace, serenity, peace of mind or whatever you may call it.
'When the going gets tough', the tough comes back home to 20 Thorpe Road. (sung to the tune by Billy Ocean).

For the roof that you have given us, thank you so very much Ayah ( TokYah ) - Mr Thaharuddin Ahmad (Allah bless his soul) Amin.

and we must thank our brother Tj for supervising the restoration and replacemnt of all the wooden beams and wooden floor that was eaten up by the termite. It took a good two months. He really put his heart and soul into it. Lucky he had retired otherwise susah.
The highlight of the termite busting was the final discovery of the termite queen by TJ who found a smal molehill in the garden. The termite bustrs dug it up and caught the RM20 thouand ringgit queen (the cost of the whole restoration), now secured in a bottle for all to see. hehehe
Next is a good paint job.
